TREND FORECAST 2013 BOOK & DOWNLOAD

The IIDNemeth Trend report was born at the end of 2010 and presented in Paris to  a leading forecast agency, where the accuracy was tested at an international level. The road shows began in the middle of 2011 and continued with the latest report in 2012. it became evident from the presentations that designers wanted this information readily available in a format that would be easy to read but at the same time inspirational. It was also evident that most trend books were exceptionally expensive and out of reach for most designers. It was with this in mind that this book was born.
these are the trends for 2013, the items in the book will evolve and still be very relevant past 2013. It is however the intention that a book will be released annually. The book is a curation of artwork's, furniture design and architecture that is intended to give a clearer picture of where things are headed; it is for this reason that I created the themes. The book is a guideline to inspire your creativity and spark creative thinking and design.

I have also featured artists and designers whose innovative approaches will certainly have an impact in the thought process of design going forward.
It is important to understand that when I look at trends and the direction in which they are moving that I look at Macro trends and not Micro trends. Macro trends are those that will continue to evolve and not simply a fad or seasonal trend. I believe micro trends are essential for fashion but not as relevant in Interiors, architecture and Home living industries. In order to understand the direction in which trends are moving that one monitors and studies everything around them, from fashion, to music, to artists and art exhibitions all the way through to consumer attitudes and political influences.

This book is basically a snapshot of a year’s research that I have done in order to come up with the themes and conclusions that you now see in this book. Although

I do hope that the book provides a great insight and understanding into where design and trends are headed, and more importantly that it creates a new way of creative thinking and inspiration.

I have also included inspiration for two areas of retail where I believe there to be great opportunities for designers here in South Africa. These two areas are POP UP shops which have not grown to their potential here in South Africa as well as window displays, which also need designer input from retailers. Our shop windows are certainly not up to an international standard and no longer good enough that these simply get done my marketing departments.

Retail will be all about the experience and not simply about price, if we do not create these experiences brands will not survive in the traditional trading space.
